Novices and Experienced Operators Comment on Value of Crane Simulation

“Simulators provide a vehicle for compressed training, while representing the real-world feel of crane operation—the motion of the seat, the swinging of the load, boom deflection,” says Cliff Dickinson, President of Crane Industry Services.

A new video produced by D-Box Technologies in conjunction with CIM Labs, highlights the impressions of both a seasoned operator and a college student who had never before operated a crane. “The first time I actually got into a crane and operated, it felt very much like the simulator,” said Brandon Thomas, a college student and CIS trainee.

“We are discovering what role simulation will play in the future of crane operation,” said Debbie Dickinson, CIS CEO.

Thank you D-Box, CM Labs, Heaton Erecting, and West Georgia Technical College for making this video possible.

In related news, Crane Hot Line magazine recently reported that crane simulators create a new dimension in jobsite safety. One of the benefits is allowing operators to rehearse situations you would not want to replicate in real life. Read the article, “Recreating Reality in the Classroom,” in the December issue.
