Bridging EHS Management Gap

May. 13, 2015 —Speaking at the 2015 Indiana Safety and Health Conference in March, Debbie Dickinson, CEO and Director of Development for Crane Industry Services, engaged health and safety professionals from a wide variety of industries about the important role they play.

More than 70 people attended the session and participated in an activity to demonstrate how distractions detract from the core message of a tool box or pre-shift safety talk.

Teams were tasked with giving basic directions for the best way to teach a simple and familiar task. During the leader’s presentation to a small group, individuals outside the group intentionally became distractions. One person walked by talking loudly; another almost walked into a group, head down, looking at a phone. As a half dozen different distractors circled the room, each group noticed two or more of the distractions. When polled after the presentation, the workers receiving the direction usually could only recall one of the points made by the leader. Read more

Three Crane Operators Boast Record Scores at Southeast Skills Competition

Three crane operators with exceptionally steady hands were named as finalists in the CIC Crane Operator & Rigger Skills Competition, sponsored by Crane Industry Services LLC, in conjunction with M&P Specialty Insurance and Superior Cranes, in Rockingham, N.C. The event was held on Jan. 17 at the headquarters of Superior Cranes.

“Without a doubt, this is the best group of operators I’ve seen compete. Any one of the winners from this competition could earn the title of 2015 Champion,” said Cliff Dickinson, President of Crane Industry Services, who has served as judge at this and two previous Championship competitions. Assisting with the judging was Terry Norris, Crane & Rigging Specialist for Crane Industry Services and Barney Shorter of Crane Training Group. Read more

CIS Makes Staff Additions

Crane Industry Services LLC announces the addition of Crane & Rigging Specialists and Inspection/Program Coordinators to their team.

Gary Lloyd, previously a Maintenance Superintendent with ALL Crane Rental of Georgia, adds more depth and expertise in hands-on training to the Crane Industry Services, LLC team. Lloyd also inspects cranes and rigging and conducts NDT testing. “Gary has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, and is highly regarded for his knowledge and skills,” said Cliff Dickinson, President, Crane Industry Services.

New Course Identifies Crane & Rigging Responsibilities

—“Employer Responsibility” are the two most important words employers, supervisors, foremen, and managers working with cranes on construction sites need to know.
