These terms are technical terms used in the Lifting industry. Certified means trained and tested with both written and practical Accredited assessments such as NCCER. Crane Industry Services is certified by NCCER to perform these accredited assessments.
Qualification is like Certification except the entity conducting the qualification could be either the employer or the employer’s representative, such as Crane Industry Services, Inc. Qualification is typically less time consuming, requires less LHE and is less expensive.

Detailed Description
This course is NCCER’s entry level rigging program. Candidates learn to use ropes, chains, hoists, & loaders through hands-on demonstrations and textbook explanations. The course also covers the fundamental mechanics of how cranes & other lift equipment move loads from one location to another on job sites. Basic signaling is also covered in order to ensure students have a complete understanding of their working environment(s).

Detailed Description
In addition to understanding basic and intermediate rigger tasks, the advanced rigger must also demonstrate the highest level of proficiency in rigger tasks including performing specific rigging operations for blind hoists, traveling with a load, working in close quarters, and lifting procedures for personnel. The advanced rigger applies specific rigging criteria from the manufacturer or equipment representative to the safe and appropriate methods of erection, dismantling, jumping, and reconfiguring of cranes. He/she also applies specific rigging criteria for lifting a single load with multiple cranes. The advanced rigger also identifies and interprets load indicator and safety devices, capacity or load charts, specific mechanical advantages, the center of gravity as it relates to the rigging operation, as well as the effects of angles or indirect pulling in the rigging operation. Lastly, the advanced rigger is proficient in the direction of single, multiple specialized lifts and can demonstrate a firm understanding of the design, documentation, crane capacity, load charts, and implementation of lift planning. Crane Industry Services’ Instructors are experienced, Advanced Riggers and NCCER Certified Instructors. Students successful in the NCCER Advanced Rigger exams receive an NCCER Gold card that is nationally recognized (i.e. portable).

The NCCER Certified Signal Person is a separate, internationally recognized certification. Successful candidates receive a NCCER Gold Card and are verified in the NCCER Registry. The NCCER Signalperson certification exam requires use of a crane and certified crane operator, working in the blind at the direction of the certification candidate giving signals. This Certification is portable throughout the U.S.
The Signal Person is proficient in the performance of hand and verbal signals, including the standard methods for hand signals as required by ASME B30.2, ASME B30.3, ASME B30.5, and ASME B30.6. The Signal Person demonstrates a basic knowledge of crane operations and limitations, including crane dynamics involved in the swinging, controlling and stopping of loads, and the boom deflections from hoisting loads. The Signal Person demonstrates specific knowledge of crane operations including voice and radio communications, personal fall protection methods, emergency procedures, and hazards and restrictions with working in proximity to overhead electric lines and equipment.

The Crane Industry Services Inc. Qualified Lift Director must have advanced rigging knowledge and relevant job experience. The Crane Industry Services Inc. Qualified Lift Director program is tailored to specific organizations and work. Trainees earn a certificate of qualification as Lift Director by successfully completing the course and tests, which includes gaining, applying and demonstrating knowledge specific to the types of LHE, rigging, and the context in which lifts are made at their work sites.

In this class students will learn safe rigging and signaling methods which satisfy OSHA 29 CFR 1926 requirements for a Qualified Rigger and Qualified Signal Person. Upon completion of this course, the Rigger & Signal Person must demonstrate their knowledge of safe rigging methods through a written examination. Practical examinations are performed to verify the hands-on capabilities of each student in hand and voice signal operations.
